How to Spot a Well Made Garment

Not all clothing is created equal — and once you know what to look for, the difference becomes obvious. Here's what separates a well-made piece from the rest:

Check the stitching. Even, tight, and consistent stitches signal careful construction. Loose threads or uneven spacing are early red flags.

Feel the fabric. Quality material has weight and structure. It shouldn't feel flimsy, overly stretchy, or paper-thin.

Look at the seams. Flat-felled or French seams (finished, enclosed edges) last far longer than raw, exposed ones that fray with washing.

Examine the lining. A well-constructed garment often has a clean interior — no loose threads, no visible glue, no shortcuts.

Test the drape. Good fabric moves naturally with the body instead of stiffly holding an unnatural shape.

Consider the source. Garments made by skilled hands, from mills known for quality — rather than mass-produced overseas — tend to hold these standards more consistently.

Once you start noticing these details, you'll never look at clothing the same way again.
